My Wardrobe Workhorses

When I saw this long soft trench at Banana Republic factory, I immediately recognized it since I own the regular store version from over a year ago (see my post here). I absolutely love the olive one I have from the regular store, so didn’t hesitate to try it in a new color that popped up on factory. When I compare my two trenches side by side, the fabric on the older regular version feels a little thicker and less wrinkle prone, and there are decorative finishes like buttons that were eliminated on the factory version. However, a pleasant feature on the factory version is that it has a full lining instead of a partial lining on the regular.

Overall I’m pretty happy with this trench and have heard from several of you who purchased and are pleased as well! I’ve worn it a handful of times already – see another way I’ve styled it recently. The black option looks reminiscent of my Theory midi drape trench (blogged here), which I often reach for to elevate basic outfits into something more sleek and chic.

Please note that for me, this jacket required a thorough steaming (using my trusty handheld steamer) out of the package, and it’s truly a long length trench that some petite ladies would want to get hemmed. When I first started blogging I pretty much kept to knee length or shorter pieces, but now can’t stop gravitating towards midi styles which can look more sophisticated if done right. For a petite frame, either a fitted look or a good fluid drape in the fabric is key for helping longer lengths not look overwhelming.

I raved about these classic black suede pumps last year and they’re back in a new taupe color and on sale and fully stocked! The straight cut across the front and lower V-dips on both sides are a little more modern and flattering than your average pump, making these great work to weekend heels.

It’s also worth mentioning my all time favorite Everlane high rise jeans are still available on sale in either high or mid rise (see my comparison post)! The “washed black” sale color is an awesome neutral and pairs with so much for me, and they have a couple more color options here at regular price as well (the distressed mid blue is also great for petites, and runs a little shorter with a 25″ Ankle inseam).

My jeans are the ankle length but I cut the hem shorter with scissors, so if you plan on cutting yours it shouldn’t really matter what length you buy (just pop them into the machine washer and dryer afterward to get this slightly frayed hem). Just note that my jeans typically shrink a little throughout after machine washing and drying so be careful not to cut hems too short.
