Several of you have mentioned that your formerly business casual offices have now eased up on dress codes and allow denim on the regular! When I want to be comfortable in denim yet look polished, this is one of my go-to “smart casual” formulas. A blazer instantly pulls a jeans + tee outfit together, and transitions well for drinks after work. I’ve listed a few picks below from Express in both neutrals and more unique spring colors.
High waisted straight ankle jeans
Express is having a big sale with 50% off all denim! You can filter their styles on the sidebar by rise, cut, and size. Being ~ 5 feet tall, most “ankle” jeans still land below my ankles but these actually hit at the right spot on me! The shorter length helps them pair more easily with flat shoes and sandals, as well as sneakers.
I got the Short inseam (fit is almost exactly the same as Petite sizing) which have a 24″ inseam and a comfortable rise. I did find the waist on these to fit a little bigger than other brands of jeans I own. I appreciate that there’s no raw cut hems or distressing for those looking for work-appropriate denim!
With this sale, I would also recommend checking out their “Flexx” jeans. This line is made of soft, very stretchy denim and comfortable all day long around the waist. I usually wear 00/24 in denim, but an XS petite or XS short in my Flexx jeans fit comfortably with no waist gap.

The petite sizing on this one is going quickly in all colors, but I’m hopeful they’ll restock! The fit of my usual petite size is very good on me down to the sleeve length, and the fabric is lighter weight with some drape. Below are a few other blazer styles that come in petite sizing:
- Double breasted blazer – stocked starting in xxs petite! This is the one I’ve been eying next. Love the designer inspired silhouette and buttons on this one, I’d pair this simply with a black tee or cami and a pair of medium wash, grey, or white jeans.
- Knit open front blazer – classic single breasted style.
- Peak lapel double breasted blazer – sharp, borrowed-from-the-boys look on this tailored blazer.
