These wide leg pants are a perfect example, featuring a wide stretch waistband that’s flat all around (so it doesn’t scream “elastic waist”) and stretch throughout the entire pant. The higher rise waist paired with a cropped wide leg is surprisingly flattering even on petite ladies.
A little more about these wide leg crop pants … they’re called “knit” but are not a sweater knit, more like a medium weight sweatshirt-like material but with a smooth finish and more refined look and feel. They are pull-on style with a fully elastic waist, making them great for WFH but they are structured and polished enough to be worn in a work setting. You can pair this with a simple tee or black turtleneck for WFH, white leather sneakers or slide sandals for running errands, or dress it up like I did here!
Measurements of xxs petite: 12.75″ across the top of the waistband when lying flat, 10″ rise, 23″ inseam.
Side note, I’ve been a bit obsessed with squared necklines and this ribbed tank is a good basic but I wish it came in petites! The overall fit works on me but is on the long side, and likely won’t be fitted on anyone who is even smaller framed. I love your site, you have helped transform my wardrobe and household with everything from Martie pants to Billy bookshelves and Cluse watches….not to mention all the shoes!! I also sew and absolutely love all of your tutorials on tailoring and DIY projects. We have the same body measurements and height so it’s SOOO helpful! One thing I struggle with is hem length. You have done a post in the past showing a proper hemline and how it can transform an outfit. I would love it if sometime you could do an entire post about different hemlines….from pants to dresses, maxi skirts, palazzo pants and everything in between….talking about where they should fall on the body to look good. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made a dress and worn it a few times, thinking it looks good, but after taking a picture realizing it’s too long and just too much fabric on my body. I find it makes a difference where the waistline falls too….a higher waisted skirt can often be longer? Anyway, thanks so much for your time and all of the beautiful clothes you have brought into my life

Thank you for the suggestion! I don’t actually have rigid rules about hem length as I find it depends on the piece, footwear (heels vs flats), the draping of the fabric etc. but I definitely agree that a higher rise helps midi skirts or cropped pants.

In terms of jeans I’d recommend checking out Express as I’ve found they tend to have stretchier denim while Topshop and Levis are definitely more rigid.
