Travel style // The softest tie front cardigan sweater

casual summer vacation travel outfit petite

Happy Friday! Just popping in to share photos of a few basics that I’ve raved about in the past. This is the cozy tie front top I mentioned recently, and boy is it delightful! It’s lightweight but has a very soft, fleeced ribbed texture that’s ultra cozy, true to its name. The sleeves from the elbows down to the wrists are fitted, while the torso has a slouchy casual fit with dolman sleeves and a slightly cropped front. See this blog post for more of my recommendations from A + F, who’ve somehow revived themselves over the years with several great staples, many of them nursing friendly (never did my high school self imagine I’d be back shopping there for nursing clothes)!

I recommended these white denim shorts a while back and have packed them on multiple trips since. They feature a flattering high rise and a shorter hem than I usually go for, but I feel like the length is balanced out by the rise. The bottoms arrive cuffed up once (can be uncuffed) and are heavily frayed at the hem, so these have a pretty casual feel overall. If you’re looking for shorts with a similar rise but no distressing and a little more coverage, I’d recommend these Everlane cotton twill shorts that I reviewed in this post!

Jean. I REALLY want and could totally use that hat clip. But my goodness it’s expensive. Does the magnet work well? I can’t find anything similar; I guess that’s why the design is patented. Did I see that? I thought I did. Anyway, the magnet – does it work well? It’s better than a clip that can munch your hat. This appears to be elegant and gentle to the hat. I could pay a little less if I bought “the Pout” at Nordstrom with free shipping, but I’d rather have something a little more chic than the bright red lips. While it’s darling, I think it would be more appealing to a person much younger than my 63 years. Love, Val

Hi Val! I think you’d definitely fare better with a classic style from their style lineup than the pout. Specifically I would recommend The Drop which is a longer design and will hold together multiple hats with different bring lengths. They have restocked at Nordstrom a few times before so keep an eye out in case more styles get added there! The magnet is very strong, but I agree its very expensive! One issue it doesn’t solve is what happens to the hats once you board an airplane if traveling. You still need to keep them on your lap, head, or on the floor!

Jean – I just love the “new” Abercrombie too! Never imagined I would be back either – but once they added petite sizing and great jumpsuits and maxi dresses I was hooked! Even their super short dresses, when ordered in tall, are fantastic. Quick Q – where did you purchase those cute sunglasses? I think you’ve had them for a bit but I just love them! Also I just discovered the brand Aritzia (may be late to the party here – have walked by them in Copley for years I think). Perfect blend of wardrobe staples and fun cuts. Would love to see you do a partnership post with them!

      Hi Gwen!
Right? Their petite sizing is such a hidden secret as it’s barely (if at all) advertised anywhere on their site. Aritzia is great as well with their sizing. I have a few pieces from there from many years ago!

My sunglasses are Theirry Lasry “lively” style. They are a longtime favorite but be warned they are a splurge! I lost my first pair and was so devastated, I ended up shelling out for a replacement pair because they’re so flattering.

I’ve been just as surprised with A&F as you have been! Can you keep an eye on your hat clip? I love it but they are all sold out. It’s be great to get a review and update when they are back in stock.

Hi Kelsea! I believe they will notify you if you sign up for emails! I would recommend the longer style called The Drop, I believe. I had an issue where I had two hats that had very different brim sizes so the shorter clip that I have couldn’t reach to hold together both hats.
