LOFT dress sz xs (now just $20!) with straps shortened (see alteration), AJ Morgan sunglasses (3 colors), Madewell bag, BP Moveover flats

Happy 4th of July weekend! Nick and I have been enjoying a low-key few days at home – as many Bostonians migrate to the Cape for the holiday, our neighborhood has been wonderfully peaceful with an abundance of street parking spots (one could get used to this!). I wore this today starting with a morning at the Boston Public Garden with our visiting friends and their two adorable little boys. After a whirl on the merry-go-round, a loop around the pond on the Swan boats, and a feast of Mr. Frosty ice cream, they (and Nick) were plumb tuckered out!

striped loft summer dress outfit

This dress is a LOFT regular xs, borrowed from my mom who is just a bit taller than me. Their sizing runs big, but with a DIY shoulder strap shortening alteration of about 2 inches, this dress fits someone my size decently as a midi-style dress. The material is pretty thin but you get what you pay for – it’s currently on final sale for under $20. And as you guys can tell from my last three posts, I can’t get enough of these super affordable sunglasses for summer. Here’s a few other sales around the web today worth pointing out:

LOFT – extra 60% off select summer styles and all sale styles. My picks: this palm-print romper with lots of good reviews, this tiered white skirt + jungle floral skirt (elasticized waists usually fit with no alterations needed!). For those who like a little boho-style, the white skirt is pretty good quality and lined.

Ann Taylor – 40% off full-priced styles with code JULY40 and extra 60% off all sale. My picks: flat leather T-strap sandals for under $20, Jacinda platform wedges for under $40 (see on me), and this Chanel-esque chain belt + eyelet shirt dress which is very nice quality (see both on me).

Anthropologie – extra 30% off sale items w/ code EVENBETTER

J.Crew Factory – 50% off site-wide with no code needed, and for a limited time: get extra 15% off + free ship at any price with code HAPPYSALE

Saks (ends Monday 7/4) – 10% off site-wide with code SAKS5TH – most high-end designers are unfortunately excluded, however almost all of the beauty, hair & fragrance brands I checked are included! I tried the code on Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, Lancome, Kiehls, Jo Malone, La Mer, and lots more…so get your backup orders in on favorites that never usually go on sale.

Neiman Marcus (ends Monday 7/4) – extra 25% off sale items. You can filter for clothing & shoes by your size, but my top pick is my Bric’s Bellagio suitcase (see it in past blog posts) which is now at the best price I’ve seen to date for this quality line of luggage! Here’s the rest of the Bellagio collection (all on extra sale) in numerous other sizes and more unisex colors.

  1. Hi Jean! I had the same issue with the horizontal part of my bra showing. Any bra tips would be great. Thanks!

Hi Jean! I just received this dress and the crossback runs high on me so my bra is showing. Did you have to use a crossback bra?

  3. I was in Boston a month or so ago and walked through the Boston Public Garden – so beautiful! It's so refreshing to away from the concrete and near nature, even though Boston streets are beautiful as well. Thanks for all the sale details, always good to have! http://www.fizzandfade.com/

Haha good question…it doesn't! I had thrown my hair up in a quick bun after taking off my hat since it was super windy. After I tried putting my hat back on atop the bun, my husband said I looked like I had a beehive on my head ; )

Love the bow on your hat. It sounds like you're having a great holiday weekend! I stayed in New York too and besides the usual tourists, the city seems more peaceful as you said and the restaurants are suddenly free, all in all a win win I must say!
