Painted Poppies

Anthropologie painted poppies dress, Nana sandals (old), J.Crew bag (old)

I’ve been on an Anthro kick this year ever since they expanded their petites selection and even offer some in stores now! I was thrilled that my last few purchases fit with no alterations needed, plus add a touch of whimsy to my usual styles. I’m partnering with them today to share special access to their September pre-shop (of next month’s styles), which is normally exclusive for Anthro members. My picks from the pre-shop are this knotted maxi dress (avail. in petites) with flattering ruched details, and these chic taupe tall boots for ladies with longer calves that need a narrow fit (note shaft height of ~16″ and circumference of ~13″). All of their regular-priced shoes are currently on promotion for 20% off, and sale items are extra 20% off as well for a limited time.

The dress in my post today is from their current offering and actually just went on sale with the extra discount. I originally found it while searching online for “poppy print”…had wallpaper in mind, but got distracted by this little number.
The pattern is more abstract with the painted effect, and the darker hues within will transition nicely into cooler weather. I ordered it over a month ago (I know some of you had been asking for an update) but had hiccups with UPS missing packages and took a while to get a replacement.

paired with my cropped cardigan in S (runs small)

Sizing wise, I ordered xxs petite in this dress and the fit was once again very good with no alterations needed. I love that the silhouette gently flares with movement, but isn’t structured or full which would be harder to rock at an office. Back view:

Material is a knit 96% poly, 4% spandex lightweight fabric with plenty of stretch. The bodice is unlined with a concealed back zip, and the skirt has a layer of lining and on-seam side pockets. The only part I felt unsure about are the sleeves which start an inch past the natural shoulder line (note on the model as well) and have a youthful puffed/elastic gathered design, but Nick gave his seal of approval. For work I’d add a navy or black blazer for more structure and to cover up that feature. I always find user reviews to be helpful for varying body types, so be sure to read the few available online if interested.

Thank you to Anthropologie for sponsoring this post!

Thank you for the post. I ordered the exact same dress in petite XXS. I like the length of the dress and the waist fits well. My only issue with the dress are also the sleeves. Thus, I am still debating on whether to keep the dress or not.

I agree that the waist is loose also, but I don't think it's an optical illusion. There is clearly excess fabric on the side in the second photo.

Although I agree that the waist appears a bit loose as well, I think that gathering (ruching?) at the waistline makes it appear to sway/puff out when, in fact, it is fitted.

  20. Very pretty and feminine dress. It looks very flattering on you and I agree, for work it can use a dark blazer or cardigan.

This post was sponsored to share Anthropologie's september pre-sale (as mentioned up front) and I decided to include photos of a dress I purchased myself from there a while ago. I was excited to get to work with them as I've been a fan and happy customer of the brand, and appreciate that they cater to extended sizing demographics without vanity sizing.

The waist of the dress I received measures 11.75" across and wasn't loose for me; in fact I thought it fit surprisingly well like the past few items I ordered from their petites line. I appreciate your feedback on sponsored content and I'm sorry to hear if you ordered the same item and it didn't fit you well. I do mention in this post that I encourage readers with different body types to do their due diligence and read others' reviews too whenever possible.

I was surprised that you did not say that the waist was a bit loose and needs to be slimmed a bit, as I fully expected you to say this. But then I scrolled down further and saw that this was a sponsored post. I find that you write with two different "voices" in your blog posts ~ an ultra keen-eyed and more critical voice on items you pay for yourself, and a more forgiving, gloss-over-the-details voice when items/posts are sponsored. So often, I've found that your objectivity and candor are compromised when a post involves freebies/compensation.
